Three years ago on a (very cold) day, my friend Jeff and I visited the Gettysburg Battlefield. I'm told it took 6 horses to get each 2,500 pound cannon in place (the type shown in the picture). Amazing feat, when you consider where they were manufactured and how many were needed.
Before a gymnastics meet last week the national anthem was played, followed by an audio clip of Lincoln's Gettysburg Address. There was complete silence and a fresh and reverent respect for those who gave their best for freedom. Here are the words that we heard (2min).
Our country is blessed.
