Prior to his death in 2000, our Uncle Don Ritchey was the director of accounting for US and international operations of Marathon Oil Co. However, the newspaper didn't list any "work" accomplishments in his obituary, even though he was with Marathon Oil for 40 years.
His life was focused on much more than his work. The newspaper does mention the time he spent fishing with his grandson, Jason, and it mentions his collection of 10 vintage HO gauge model train engines. He always wanted to be a railroad engineer, but his career took a different turn.
It also mentioned that he built clocks from old church pews and recycled barn lumber. When I'm in my office I often think about Uncle Don when I look at the clock he gave us. (see picture) He and his wife routinely sold these clocks to raise money for mission's work oversees.
Uncle Don's whole life was wrapped up in the church. He was a Sunday school teacher for years, a missionary for the Church of God in Africa, South and Central America. He was a trustee of Anderson University and received their distinguished service award.
This Uncle made a positive difference in my life, and for that I am thankful and blessed.
