So our mom shared an experience during her visit to Malta.
Malta is the Mediterranean Island where Paul the Apostle (in the Bible) visited. My mom, sister and brother-in-law reached the island by ship, just like Paul did as described in Acts 28.
It turns out they experienced unusual hospitality by the people in Malta, and were invited to dinner by one of the islanders. The main course for the evening meal was squid. (I've used squid many times but only for bait, since it is slimy and has an interesting smell) Anyway, not wanting to offend their hosts, Mom closed her eyes and swallowed hard.
Her comments about squid made me curious about this creature, so I found five interesting facts:
- Every squid features three hearts. They also move through the water tail first instead of head first.
- The giant squid have eyeballs that are the same size as a standard basketball.
- Some of the larger squid can weigh more than 1,000 pounds.
- Many species of squid have a life span that is only about one year.
- Some species of squid have been found to live more than 13,000 feet deep in the water.
Guess on my next deep sea fishing trip I will pack squid for both bait and lunch.
