SIDEKICK

Amazon Prime is great!

The novel "All The Light We Cannot See" was recommended by a friend. The book summary goes something like this: "Blind since early childhood, Marie-Laure is only twelve years old when she is forced to flee her home as the Nazis occupy France." Sounded interesting, but my friend said it was a tough read, so I was hesitant to spend the money on the book.

Turns out I was saved again by Amazon, since Prime members can borrow one book from the Kindle Owners' Lending Library each calendar month. Totally Free! The Amazon library had this book, but in the form of a "Sidekick".

What is a Sidekick? I wondered what it was too.

"A Sidekick is a reading companion to a book, and is filled with commentary and thought-provoking questions. Sidekicks are designed to put you in touch with the layers of a novel and to better understand the story. It helps the reader discover hidden gems and learn more about the characters."

This author's writing is filled with vivid imagery, made even more profound because he uses words that describe the main character's perceptions of the world. Smells and sounds are amped up, and the reader is transported into the blind girls darkness.

The author also uses deep metaphors, and the stories have hidden meanings, some of which I did not realize until I began reading this sidekick.

Anyway, Amazon and Sidekick. You gotta' love it.
