FLOWER OR WEED?

Flower/Weed at Dover Community Center
Up until the 1800's people would pull grass out of their lawns to make room for dandelions!

Today, most consider dandelions a weed; that is, "A plant that grows where it is not wanted." They are found almost all over the world, and they still remain the favorite flower for our grandkids to pick and give to their mom. Flower or weed, they seem to be everywhere this time of year.
The dandelion flower opens to greet the morning and closes in the evening to go to sleep.

Every part of the dandelion is useful: root, leaves, flower. It can be used for food, medicine and dye for coloring.

Seeds are often carried as many as 5 miles from their origin!

Americans spend millions on lawn pesticides to kill this weed and use 30% of the country’s water supply to keep their lawns green and dandelion free.
