I just finished reading an article saying we need cold weather to maintain a healthy appreciation for the upcoming warmth and sunlight.
Studies show that if the weather seldom changes (like in Florida), we lose our gratefulness for the weather when it's truly spectacular and warm. As it turns out, our bone-chilling days of winter in Dover, PA will be a large part of the reason we will be able to enjoy the balmy, sky days of spring. Let's keep the cold, at least for a while longer. Don't you agree?

Studies show that biting winters may lead to longer life. Researchers from the University of Michigan discovered that worms exposed to cold temperatures have longer life spans. "It's too early to say, but it is possible the research applies to humans as well, because the genetic pathway identified is found in people."
Some ticks, mosquitoes and stink bugs have died off because of our freezing temperatures, meaning there will be fewer skin bites, garden pests, and unwelcome home visitors in the upcoming months. The longer we keep these invigorating temps, the less pests we will have in a few months.
Freezing temperatures lower the acidity in oranges and increases sugar content, which sweetens the fruit. The next time you want that orange to taste better, sit it outside one hour before eating. But this can only happen if we keep this freezing weather for a while longer.
Here's to a late spring!

Although my wife disagrees with everything I just wrote, you can click HERE for the complete article about benefits of colder winters.
I don't agree, at all. Bring on warm. Go ahead and credit Al Gore. WE WANT GLOBAL WARMING.
ReplyDeleteYour worm example is a stretch. Are you aware that the average life span of an earthworm is 4-8 years? Be careful what you wish for. :)
ReplyDeleteI'm good with a longer winter. Love oranges and plan to try the orange suggestion. People need to get up at 4 am and breathe in the cold, crispy air. Nothing like this feeling.
