THE MIDDLE OF THE ATLANTIC

Interesting text conversation this morning with our friends, who are at this moment headed for Europe on a transatlantic ocean liner.

Using tracking software, I see they are just about smack in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean right now, and I can also see a LIVE view from their ship, by way of a streaming camera that is mounted on the upper bridge.

Our friends are joined by almost 4,000 other people on the ocean liner, which towers 200 feet about the ocean waterline. The ship is more than twice as long as the Washington Monument, equivalent to nearly four football fields.

Some people actually have become permanent or semi-permanent residents on cruise ships as an alternative to a retirement home. The cost is comparable, but in many ways, the amenities are superior. Linens are changed daily, the food is sumptuous and plentiful, there is a host of activities, 24/7 medical care is readily available, (there is even a morgue) and of course, there are constant visits to interesting locations, all over the world. And using today's technology, friends at home can stalk, (stay in touch), wherever the port of call.
