For 20 years I have been part a small group that meets weekly at this restaurant in York, PA.
Whenever I think about our group, the song from Cheers always starts to play in my mind. The words go something like this:
Making your way in the world today takes everything you've got.Taking a break from all your worries sure would help a lot.Wouldn't you like to get away?Sometimes you want to go where everybody knows your name, And they're always glad you came. You wanna be where you can see, your troubles are all the same. You wanna be where everybody knows your name.
Based on her post today, one of my favorite writers Sarah Beesey, is part of a similar group. Some of the things she listed that describe her group, fit our group perfectly.
"An ability to welcome the contradictions in each other. Ferocious trust. A shared sense of humor. A fierce belief in the inherent goodness and holiness of each other. An equal amount of butt-kicking. Silliness. A common core. A bologna detector. An aversion to the phrase, “I’m fine.” Unconditional welcome. Openness to being challenged. Loyalty like blood." (this list is edited)Try to take a minute to read her thoughtful post HERE. If you do, the title of this post will make sense.
