Ever since my wife and I saw this musical at the Dutch Apple Dinner Theater, we've been discussing one of her favorite lines. "To love another person is to see the face of God"
The musical is based on a story of forgiveness,
redemption and love. From the opening scene, we are introduced to a former
thief whose future seems bleak. Perhaps the most beautiful and powerful
scene of the musical is that of his encounter with a priest. The priest shows great kindness to him, and yet the thief steals from him. The thief flees, is captured and returned to the church.
Rather than allow him to
be jailed again, the priest assures the thief's captors that no theft has occurred;
the items in the thief's possession were a gift. This simple act of forgiveness
empowers the thief to turn his life around. He devotes his life from this point
on to one of honesty, generosity and integrity.
