STRANGE STRUCTURES

NOT EVERYONE LIVES IN A CONVENTIONAL LOOKING HOUSE.
In the "Upside Down Blue House" in Germany, even the furniture inside is stuck to the ceiling. (including the toilet) But why? I read this quote from one of the builders, "We didn't build the house for a reason, we just wanted to do something different". This got me to thinking about other strange structures, some nearby my home town.

Before I met my wife she spent the night in a shoe. This is true! When she was in elementary school a good friend of hers lived in the Haines Shoe House and had a sleep over. Most local people are familiar with the structure, since it is along Route 30 when traveling between York and Lancaster, PA. The Shoe House was built in 1948 by Colonel Haines; called the Shoe Wizard of York.

Not long after we were married, my wife started collecting Longaberger Baskets. Each basket is handmade, signed and dated by the maker. Eventually she visited their home office in Ohio and when she pulled up the drive to the (almost 200' high) headquarters, there was no question that she was in the right place.

When our son was in Junior High School he became interested in architecture, so I took him to a place near Pittsburgh called "Fallingwaters", the name of a very special house that is built over a waterfall. After Frank Lloyd Wright designed this structure, it instantly became famous and today it is a National Historic Landmark.

YABA DABA DO ....

Television legend Dick Clark had a one-of-a-kind residence in Malibu worth $3.5 million. The one bedroom, single-story structure with it’s rocky interior looks just like the home of Fred and Wilma from the classic 60′s cartoon.
