Every spring I try to tackle one thing that needs attention. Last year it was the garage, this year it will be our outside shed. In March of 2013 I was wasting way too much time trying to find stuff. I was tired of my wife being able to find anything, instantly, in our house, but if she would ask me for a putty knife, I would end up spending an hour trying to locate one. Our solution?
A-Z PLASTIC BINS - One entire wall in our garage now has 25 plastic bins arranged alphabetically. Ever since doing this it is absolutely amazing how quickly I find whatever we need. Now if I need to cut a board and need to measure, I simply go to the bins starting with "M" and there it is; a tape measure! The inexpensive shelving and plastic bins were well worth the investment.
BOTTLE STORAGE - I stumbled onto this idea, but we had a shelf left over from the bins. The front of the shelving provides a great home for hand triggered containers, especially cleaning and car products.
FILE CABINET - Last spring we found a really nice filing cabinet at a yard sale for $7.00. Although we have a secure filing cabinet in my office for bank statements, etc., this cabinet is dedicated to owners manuals; (riding mower, appliances, power tools, etc.) - all kept in the garage where they are needed.
