WEEKEND MOVIES

This weekend we took in Son of God and Grace Unplugged.  Can't remember a time when so many Bible based movies are being shown.  Before the movie Son of God they showed previews of God Is Not Dead (coming March 21st), the upcoming movie Noah, and a movie based on the book Heaven is for Real.

Son of God portrayed a personal story of the most important person in my life.  Some of the reviews were really good but it was annoying that some nitpicked whether each scene lined up precisely with each Bible verse.  This was a movie, not a Bible study.  It would have been a problem if the scenes depicted an untruth that would have altered the key message of the movie.  But they didn't.  For example, one criticism was that the wise men went directly to the stable where Jesus was born, but the Bible seems to indicate they may have visited Jesus at another location.  Did they visit Jesus?  Yes!!  The salvation of the world didn't hinge on exactly where they delivered their gifts.  Another criticism was that Jesus didn't go inside Lazarus tomb.  Did Jesus raise Lazarus from the dead?  Yes!!  This kind of criticism sounded like the picky attitude of the Pharisees that Jesus condemned in the movie.  (I feel much better now)

The credits at the end of the movie were worth watching.  First time I heard CeeLo Green sing "Mary Did You Know"?
