WE CAN REDUCE POVERTY

Watched a TED TALK by Bono today, where he painted an encouraging picture about progress on reducing deaths, poverty and hunger.

"It is possible to end extreme poverty within the next generation. And the facts are beyond promising.  Much progress has been made since the year 2000 , but you never hear about it"
  • Eight million AIDS patients have been receiving retroviral drugs
  • Malaria deaths have been cut in some countries by 75%
  • Child mortality rate of kids under 5 is down by 2.65 million deaths a year
  • Extreme poverty declined from 43% in 1990 to 33% in 2000 to 21% by 2010.
